Last summer, Joan Garcia decided to quit Espanyol in favour of a move to Catalan rivals FC Barcelona, which sparked a great deal of animosity and hatred from the team's supporters.

On social media, Garcia was instantly inundated with hate speech, and Espanyol supporters did everything in their power to express their disapproval of the transfer.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the controversy surrounding Garcia reappeared this week after La Liga formally notified that the rookie goalkeeper had been the target of insulting shouts during Espanyol's most recent match against Elche.

La Liga condemns hateful chanting directed against Garcia

The complaint submitted by La Liga's match directors claims that some Espanyol fans yelled obscenities at Garcia, calling for "Joan's head."

According to the report, the chanting originated from the "Gol Cornella" section and the incident occurred in the 35th minute of the game at the RCDE Stadium.

This was especially noticeable in sectors 109, 110, and 111, which are where Espanyol's ultras club "Grada Canito" resides.

For almost 20 seconds, the song, "Queremos la cabeza de Joan" (We want Joan's head), was sung in unison.

Another incident of animosity was also noted in the report, this time from Elche supporters who screamed "Puta Barça" (F*** Barça) as a group for about 15 seconds.

Both events have been sent by La Liga to the Anti-Violence Commission and the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) for examination. At this point, the disciplinary committee will determine whether to launch a formal investigation.

Reminders to adhere to anti-violence rules that forbid and punish violent, homophobic, or xenophobic behaviour at sporting events were shown on the stadium's video screens during the game.

Garcia, meanwhile, is presently out due to an injury, but according to recent sources, the goalie may be able to play this weekend against Elche.

NAPOLI TAKE THREE-POINT LEAD AFTER CLOSE WIN AGAINST LECCE

Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa's header secured a 1-0 win for Napoli over Lecce, moving them top of Serie A. The victory was sealed after Vanja Milinkovic-Savic saved a Francesco Camarda penalty.

Andre Frank Zambo Anguissa scored another goal to give Napoli a narrow victory over Lecce, although Vanja Milinkovic-Savic also saved a penalty kick from Francesco Camarda.

The thrilling 3-1 victory against Inter put the Partenopei back atop the league, but it came at a price: Kevin De Bruyne will miss several months of action due to a significant thigh strain. Rasmus Hojlund and Amir Rrahmani returned to the bench, but Stanislav Lobotka, Alex Meret, and Romelu Lukaku remained on the treatment table. Leonardo Spinazzola and Scott McTominay were rested, and the 4-3-3 formation was reinstated. Following the 3-2 loss to Udinese, Lecce was without Gaby Jean, Filip Marchwinski, Matias Perez, and Riccardo Sottil.

Billy Gilmour's attempt was deflected wide as Napoli wore their special edition Halloween uniform, but Lorenzo Lucca unintentionally charged down a Matteo Politano strike that was on target.

On the Matias Olivera pull-back, Politano turned over from six yards out, while Medon Berisha also threatened by drilling wide from the area's edge.

Olivera had been put clear by a clever Gilmour first-touch lay-off, but Wladimiro Falcone made a fantastic stop with his legs at the near post.

On the cusp of halftime, Francesco Camarda's chest and half-volley was inches wide, yet it would not have been considered handball.

Moments after the restart, Noa Lang added to the growing list of Napoli players out after hobbling off with a hit to the thigh just above the left knee.

Lucca sprinted onto a long ball that Falcone hurried out to nod clear, and Politano's follow-up was charged down with the goalie off his line, creating a double chance to open the score.

After a VAR review, the Lecce penalty was given because Kialonda Gaspar's header on a corner seemed to hit Juan Jesus' hand, which bent back on impact. Vanja Milinkovic-Savic, who has saved five of the past nine Serie A penalties faced, demonstrated his expertise by parrying the spot-kick when Camarda stepped up.

Hojlund made his comeback from injury, with McTominay and Leonardo Spinazzola reinforcing the team off the bench for the final half-hour.

It paid off, as a free kick from David Neres was glanced into the far top corner off the head of Anguissa from six yards out, giving Napoli the lead.

Nikola Stulic was too slow to capitalise on a Danilo Veiga pull-back, Elmas shot wide, and Hojlund missed the Neres assist in stoppages.

Lucas Paqueta, a West Ham standout, appears destined to leave the team in January.

After only helping the London Stadium team score two Premier League goals this season, Paqueta has struggled at West Ham.

After Paqueta rejected a move to Aston Villa on deadline day, there was optimism that the Brazilian would be better this season.

Since joining West Ham, Nuno Espirito Santo has faced criticism and has found it difficult to get the most out of the offensive midfield player.

With a possible return to Flamengo imminent, Paqueta could now search for a way out of East London as the winter window draws near.

West Ham's Lucas Paqueta wants to depart.

Unai Emery's team expressed a strong desire to sign the 28-year-old Paqueta; therefore, West Ham might have accepted a bid from Villa.

The former Lyon player demonstrated that a deal never materialised by celebrating during the 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest on the road.

In front of the travelling fans, the number 10 feigned to answer the phone, tossed it aside, and planted a kiss on the West Ham emblem.

This seems to have been in vain because Paqueta wants to leave West Ham in January, according to a report published by The Times on October 28.

Although he has an E20 deal through 2027, the Brazilian is eager to leave the London Stadium.

Flamengo expressed greater interest than any other team in England when they submitted a loan bid over the summer, but it is uncertain if they could afford West Ham's demands in order to finalise a permanent move.

West Ham has not been satisfied with Paqueta.

The former Flamengo player is generally doing worse statistically, even though he may be up for touches and important passes per 90 this season.

In comparison to the previous campaign, Paqueta's predicted assist, big chance creation, and pass accuracy numbers are lower.

The frustration is that Nuno is practically compelled to start him because of the current dearth of talent in the Hammers' roster.

Given that his lack of goals and assists is still concerning, he has been far from adequate and truly ought to be dropped.

The transfer of money could be helpful if he leaves, but it might be difficult to find suitors in January.
